The Revista de Ciencias Sociales (RCS), this year, celebrates its forty-eighth anniversary, since in 1974 it published its first number (in print), beginning its scientific life disseminating knowledge in the area of social sciences, aware of the need to have a body where the Teaching and Research Staff of the Economic and Social Sciences Faculty of the Universidad del Zulia in Venezuela, can publish their works, articles, essays, reviews, among others, in the different areas of knowledge and, likewise, receive collaborations from social scientists of the Latin American Continent and others; avoiding all possible obstacles.
It is worth mentioning that in its beginnings the journal was published twice a year, and each volume contained two numbers; however, its periodicity was not regular, which is why in RevicyhLUZ (digital Library that groups all the journals of the University) there is evidence of some of the RCS publications from 1974 to 1975, and then from 1995 to the present; however, the coordinator of the Publications Commission, attached to the Economic Research Institute, donated two copies that show that the journal had published two issues in 1983, explaining in the editorial of the first of these, that the journal could not continue its regularity since 1975 for budgetary reasons; this number was called, as the Tercera Época, alluding to its relaunch after remaining dormant for eight years. Later, in the context of a change in the economic model, it appears after seven years, in 1990, the edition of No. 1 of that year.
This intermittent and spasmodic publication was due, among other reasons, in the first place, in the words of Dr. Juliana Ferrer, to the fact that the cultural mutation produced -especially by the oil wealth from the '70s- also produced that life epic virtuality would be lost and absence would be installed as anorm of life: Absence of knowledge, redemption, and fusion, all synthesized in the abandonment of the revolution and possible change. Secondly, the journals that were published in the faculty, with very few exceptions, never obeyed a project supported by clear objectives and scope, as well as institutional financing that guaranteed monitoring of both spending and quality.
After the referred number (in 1990), there is no evidence of the publication of any other, but until 1995 when Volume 1, Number 1 appears, identified as Nueva Época, showing in this issue the journal its ISSN (which has since 1974) and its legal deposit, maintaining its publication uninterrupted until today, which can be reviewed at: https://produccioncientificaluz.org/index.php/rcs/issue/archive, striving to fulfill the objective of contributing to the confrontation and dissemination of knowledge, as well as opening spaces for discussion, from the academic and scientific spheres. From 1995: Even when "the great stories and the great meaning" have been lost, dreams and utopias have been lost-or perhaps that is why- there are other urgencies, another country, a new political-cultural framework. In short, a dramatic recomposition of all thescenarios that need to be addressed.
To do so, there are now elements that were not available before: First, the intellectual human resource of high maturity and training; and second, a more demanding, systematic, and coherent financing, monitoring and control policy by the CONDES Scientific and Humanistic Council, which guarantees the frequency and scientific quality of the journals. As of the year 2000, the journal began to be published quarterly, that is, three issues per volume each year; and then, from the year 2010 and to date, it is published quarterly, releasing four issues per volume annually; and in 2015 it goes digital.
In this sense, even though in the Revista de Ciencias Sociales (Ve) its beginnings were not constant, since the 1990s, it has been persistently overcoming very adverse situations retrospectively, especially today, in order to share uninterruptedly and periodically, the plurality of thoughts in research, which are discussed nationally and internationally, which has led it to position itself in the most prestigious databases. It should be noted that four numbers are published per year, which fall short given the large number of articles received from various countries; therefore, as of 2019, within the framework ofthe celebration of twenty-five years of uninterrupted publication, and forty-five of creation, special issues began to be published.
On the other hand, the Revista de Ciencias Sociales (Ve), as well as others, not only from the University, but also from the country, have been victims of cyberattacks or hacks, evidenced for example at the end of 2019, with the visualization of Articles that had not been accepted by some Journals in their regular issues, but had been uploaded to their repository after publication, which was addressed and overcome in a timely manner, working hard on the security of the hosting portal.
Likewise, as of 2020, a health situation has had to be faced, derived from the COVID-19 pandemic; In this sense, it has been possible to appreciate how these challenges have allowed restructuring, reinventing itself, from every point of view, taking advantage of the opportunities that the measures adopted by most countries, such as confinement, among others, offered to society, giving it a more efficient use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), and with them of social networks, with which the journal, to increase its visibility and citation, now has Twitter: @RCSVenezuela; LinkedIn: Revista deCiencias Sociales (RCS); and he has his blog: https://revcienciassocialesrcsve.blogspot.com/
For all the above, and despite all the challenges and inconveniences that have had to be overcome and those that will be to come, fill with joy, pride and also motivate, the fruits generated to date in the Revista de Ciencias Sociales (Ve), such as the recent rating in 2022 as Q2 in Scopus, and ranking 30th among the 100 most cited journals in Spanish in Google Scholar, with which the journal has developed, evolved and expanded, thanks to the Editorial Committee team, in coordination with the research policy of the Research Institute of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, of the Universidad del Zulia; collaborators, such as columnists, institutions, among other actors; the national and international referees, whose contributions have made it possible to maintain the academic-scientific standard of the journal; who in these hard times for the country and the University, have ensured the quality as well as the continuity of the journal.
Therefore, despite all the adversities that are experienced, it allows it to continue being positioned in the best indexes and databases, such as Scimago Journal Report (SJR) – Scopus, REDALYC, LATINDEX, Dialnet, Erihplus, Academia.edu, among others.
